My music writing style is as follows.

In writing original music I start with an idea of its meaning.

Is it heavy or light in nature.  What motivation-PATRIOTIC, A BALLAD, SYMPHONIC.  THE BETTER THE EMOTION GOING IN THE BETTER THE OUTCOME.

I begin by putting a background, finding the bass & chordal progression-all based on what I hear-not I<IV< V, etc.

I may do 4 to 8 measures getting the color I want.  I then search for my inner-Mozart to have a good, flowing melody.  I just continue writing allowing the music to go where it may.  I try to oranize the music in sections that direct the player to where the music is.  If a section is good enough I have iT repeat.  You can say it is all through composed.

I never make up a melody without the color picture I want.
